Kathryn Kreider DNP, APRN, FAANP, FNP-BC: Hi, everyone. We're so thrilled that you would join us for our diabetes session today. My name is Katherine Kreider. I am a professor of nursing at Duke University. I am the director of the endocrinology specialty training program for nurse practitioners there at the School of Nursing. And I also practice clinically in adult endocrinology at Duke University Medical Center in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism, and nutrition. And I'm joined today by Dr Diana Isaacs.
Diana Isaacs, PharmD, CDCES: Hi everybody, I'm Diana Isaacs. I'm an endocrine clinical pharmacy specialist. I'm also the director of education and training in diabetes technology at the Cleveland Clinic. And I've also been very involved in professional organizations including the American Diabetes Association (ADA) where I served on the Professional Practice Committee for 3 years from 2020 to 2023, which is the committee that updates the ADA standards of care.
Dr Kreider: So we're thrilled to bring you this session today on diabetes treatments and updates. We're going to start this session really looking at overall goals for patients with diabetes, including cardiovascular risk reduction and how we individualize care and treatment.
We're also going hit some of the highlights of the 2024 standards of medical care and diabetes from the ADA and then we're going to get right into some of the meat of the session, so we're going to talk about diabetes pharmacology and technology.
Dr Isaacs: I'm going to really be doing a deeper dive into some of the updates with the pharmacology and the medications, which continue to expand and also with continuous glucose monitoring. And then we have a couple very interesting cases that we're going to be going through throughout the presentation as well.
Dr Kreider: And then we're also going to wrap up the session talking about a couple of other things to keep in mind when you're really trying to optimize your patients, cardiometabolic health, including weight loss, especially in the context of the newer agents that we can use. Also, looking at mental health and how that impacts diabetes treatment outcomes and avoiding diabetes hypoglycemia. So we're really hitting some of the highlights in the short, succinct and very practical session to help you with your patients. And we really hope this is engaging for you and practical and something you can take right back to your clinic session.
