Dr Saundra Jain: Hi, everyone. My name is Dr. Saundra Jain, and I'm an adjunct clinical affiliate at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. I also have a private practice of psychotherapy in Austin, Texas. What a treat to be part of this year's practical updates in primary care virtual series. This is such a wonderful opportunity to spend time with all of you, talking about mindfulness meditation.

Let me tell you just a little bit about my presentation. It's called Lifestyle Medicine Series Part One: Mindfulness for the Provider and Patient. Now, you may be wondering, what's this all about? I'm happy to tell you that we are going to be discussing a lot, but what I hope to achieve is this. Three things during our time together, and let's start with number one.

First, we're going to be discussing the benefits of mindfulness meditation, not only for our patients, but for us as providers. We will explore the practice of mindfulness meditation as an effective clinical intervention. And after the presentation, you'll be able to answer this question: does it really work?

Second, together we're going to look at the neurobiological footprint of mindfulness meditation. Now, you might be wondering if mindfulness meditation really changes the brain. Well, I want you to stay tuned because I'll answer that question for you during the session. But a little sneak peek, the data is absolutely fascinating.

And third, we will discuss the practical application of mindfulness in a busy clinical setting. Now, I know this my friends, time is a precious commodity for all of us, and I believe that you'll find this information helpful and definitely worth your time.

And finally, just a little bonus. At the end of the presentation, together we're going to engage in a mindful moment, a short four-minute mindfulness meditation. I believe this is a really nice way to start our day of learning. Now I hope you'll join me to learn more about mindfulness meditation, and I'm really looking forward to an interesting Q&A session. See you very soon.
