According to the American Academy of Neurology’s guidelines, patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) should receive seasonal influenza vaccinations.
Better luck next time
“With (1) known risks of exacerbation and other morbidity with influenza infection and (2) no identified risks of exacerbation with influenza vaccines, benefits of influenza vaccination outweigh the risks in most scenarios, although patients with MS receiving some [immunosuppressive or immunomodulating] treatments (fingolimod, glatiramer acetate, mitoxantrone) may have a reduced response to influenza vaccination,” according to the AAN.
