Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, Management of Anorectal Disorders

Benign anorectal disorders (ARDs) are often distressing, debilitating, and add significantly to the health care burden. They are common, affecting 8.1% of the population, according to Damanpreet K. Grewal, MD, who is presenting a session on anorectal disorders at Practical Updates in Primary Care 2022 Virtual Series.

“There are multiple, overlapping symptoms that can often obscure the underlying pathology and can pose significant diagnostic and management dilemmas,” Dr Grewal said. “History and comprehensive digital rectal examination can provide clarity on diagnosis, testing, and management.”

Dr Grewal is a clinical assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. She is presenting a session titled “Benign Anorectal Disorders,” at Practical Updates in Primary Care 2022 Virtual Series.

The learning objectives during Dr Grewal’s presentation on ARDs include:

  • Define ARDs
  • Discuss different types of ARDs
  • Review pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of various ARDs
